"Oxford American isn't just another literary magazine. It is the OXFORD AMERICAN! The very best, even better (and more photography friendly) than Paris Review these days. Congratulations, Marthanna." - Timothy Hyde
OXFORD AMERICAN literary magazine publishes Yater's photograph, Judi's Dance, alongside a memoir essay on beach music written by North Carolina's renowned author, Jill McCorkle. The publication is a quarterly literary magazine know as A Magazine Of The South, and won a National Magazine Award in General Excellence in 2016. Each year Oxford American publishes an annual music issue that explores the musical legacies of the South, and the music issues are packaged with a CD compilation for which they have received wide recognition. In 2012, The New York Times wrote that their music issue CDs "practically belong in the Smithsonian." The theme for the upcoming 20th Annual Southern Music Issue is the music of North Carolina. The project features many musicians, writers, and artists who live in North Carolina.
